It seems that some people are having problems either connecting to our servers or joining games. We are trying to track these issue down. However, these connection issues are very specific, it really depends on your own local setup (PC settings, router, modem, firewal, etc.) We need your help in this. Some people seem to have fixed their issue by fiddling around with firewall/router settings. If you fixed your connection issues please let us know. Tell us what you did so we can help others figure out the issues they are having.

For people who are still having connection issue refer to this guide as a starter http://ageofwonders.com/support/networking/

You can check if you correctly forwarded port 14800 by using this site http://www.canyouseeme.org/

Furthermore, firewalls seem to be causing a lot of problems. Sometimes removing Age of Wonders 3 from your firewall permissions and restarting the game fixes the problem. See below for detailed instructions

If you are having connection issues you can try the following firewall changes:

    Windows 7 and 8:

    1) Make sure Age of Wonders 3 is not running

    2) Open your 'Control Panel' and go to 'Windows Firewall'. Select 'Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall' in the top left corner
    3) Click 'Change settings'
    4) Scroll till you find 'Age of Wonders III – Game' in the list. Note that their might be more than 1 if you have also ran the game in debug mode.
    5) Select 'Age of Wonders III – Game' and click 'Remove'. Make sure you remove all references to 'Age of Wonders III – Game' if you have more than one.
    6) Press 'OK'

    7) Start Age of Wonders, the firewall should now ask if you want to allow acces for Age of Wonders
    8) Select all networks
    9) Click 'Allow access'

    Windows Vista:
    1) Make sure Age of Wonders 3 is not running

    2) Open your 'Control Panel' and select 'Classic View' in the top left if that is not yet selected. Scroll till you find 'Windows Firewall' in the list
    3) Click on ' ' in the top left
    4) Scroll till you find 'Age of Wonders III – Game' in the list. Note that their might be more than 1 if you have also ran the game in debug mode.
    5) Select 'Age of Wonders III – Game' and click 'Remove'. Make sure you remove all references to 'Age of Wonders III – Game' if you have more than one.
    6) Press 'OK'

    7) Start Age of Wonders, the firewall should now ask if you want to allow acces for Age of Wonders
    8) Click 'Unblock'

This actually might have worked for me, though I got disconnected and I'm not sure if I got kicked from someone's open game or was disconnected because of network errors, but I did get further.

Is there any way you folks can host some sort of 'test game' that we can try to connect and disconnect from?

Update 1: I found another open game, and joined, and was sitting in the lobby and wasn't immediately disconnected until I closed it, which makes me think my first attempt was someone kicking 'me' out. So, this might work. Not sure why.

NOTE: I 'manually' have pot 14800 open to my internal IP on my router, basically option 2 of your network settings. I had tried to create a manual inbound on port 14800 in windows firewall, and that didn't work. I'm curious as to why this did (or at least seems to, I won't get to play an actual game again until Wed).

Now, the UPnP option works for me, but I don't want to have that turned on, and have it off for a reason.

    #60553

My router has two options for UPnP. The first is "enable UPnP", and the second "allow applications to auto configure UPnP".

At first I did not know that the second option was there, and I just had the "enable UPnP" option on. I was getting the connection error problems, and I could not use the multiplayer mode.
When I found the "allow applications to auto configure UPnP" option at my router and turned it on, I had no more problems and multiplayer worked OK.

    Hello everybody,

I have tried everything I can find so far to try and connect to the MP. I even tried turning off my bit defender software, putting my router/modem combo in DMZ plus mode (its a 2wire 3600 HGV router/modem combo if that info helps at all). My computer is basically set to allow any and EVERYTHING that wants to come and go. However, every time I try to connect to the MP, it will say "Configuring Network" for about 10-20 seconds before giving me the message about being unable to connect to my computer and that I should check my firewall/router etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated, because I have absolutely no idea how to proceed from here.
Thanks in advance for the assistance, Mcshiggle.

    #60990

I solved it by enabling upnp in the router! thx

    #61087

I dont even see "domain" as an option in the firewall to click on and off. Also, I can't ping the servers at all.

Running debug mode, the title continues to fail the open connection test.
What I have: Linksys WRT330N Wirless-N Gigabit Gaming Router
    What I've done:
    – Forwarded a couple different ports, single and range to the pc in use; made sure the same port was specified in the title's misc settings
    – Removed all Windows firewall exceptions for AOW3 that were added automatically upon installation; had them re-added for debug and retail version upon launching the game again; I've also manually added port and program exceptions to the windows firewall
    – Made sure NAT is enabled in Router->Setup->Advanced Settings
    – Tried disabling Dynamic Routing in Router->Setup->Advanced Settings (it's now back to Enabled)
    – Disabled "Filter Internet NAT Redirection" in Router->Security (still disabled; had been enabled)
    – Tried disabling the router firewall completely to no avail
    – Tried disabling windows firewall to no avail
    – Tried disabling UPnP (is currently enabled)
    – Logged in with my Steam account on a friend's PC who is not having the issue but has the same ISP – was successful

Seems to point to an issue with my router setup, but for the life of me cannot figure out what is the culprit. I've successfully set up port forwarding for other games that have needed it (minecraft, killing floor, aow2) and not had issues in the past. I play other games on Steamworks (ahem!) without issue.

If anyone is on this router setup and has had issues and been able to resolve them, input would be greatly appreciated!

I have the Open connection test fail as well but I cant figure out why… Yesterday it worked Fine. Since Today I cant login to the Online Lobby. What the hell. I want to play with my friends!

And yeah I disabled any Firewall and Opened Ports or whatsoever (I know this things) Nothing seems to help.

Maybe that Im using IPv6 is an Issue but why it worked yesterday just fine and not today?!

Ok now all of a sudden Its working… I did nothing O.o

    #61357

I give up…. I've disabled EVERY firewall… I've done multiple tests… And I'm going to confirm that this has been a WASTE OF 24 HOURS. It's nothing I'm doing wrong. It's something on this companies end. Maybe if they let us use UDP instead of TCP it might make life easier on EVERY user. Seriously, this is so disappointing.

Also, my username isn't Myjin…. Why it keeps displaying it as such, baffles me.

    #61402

Adding my voice to the crowd here, as someone who's completely unable to even see games in the online multiplayer. I've port-forwarded manually, I've enabled UPnP on my router, I've disabled my firewall entirely, I've even changed the port in the Misc. tabs to 14801 out of desperation…

…nothing, I'm totally unable to even see a Multiplayer lobby.

Why have a multiplayer game like this on Steam if you're not going to use Steam's multiplayer options? It's maddening.

    #61656

Same issue. I've tried everything in the support page. I also tried the firewall suggestion at the top of the forum. Nothing works. Please help!!

    #61725

Same with me here. Don't usually post on forums to talk about issues but its slightly frustrating that I cant connect at all, despite trying everything suggested.

    Hope for a resolution soon.

    #61889

Ok its not working again. I guess its just a random serverside problem? Cuz im doing nothing and it keeps working from time to time…but most od the time not <.<

    #62243

its not working for me as well. cant see anything that is blocking the connection.

windows firewall, comodo firewall. nothing is blocking it but just get to online mode. Do I submit a ticket?

    #62265

I don't use a firewall. UPnP is enabled.
And I still can't see a MP lobby.
Why the hell don't you use a Steam native funcs for MP?

    #62437

I am sad, for I hath also tried everything said before me to no avail.

I pray this problem doth be resolved soon, for it troubles me dearly so.

    #62631

    Hi,

I experience the same problems. I have UPnP turned on in my router (Hitron). I forwared prots manually. I disabled my firewall…

In Debug mode it sais, not blocked by firewall, looking good! But still it sais it can#t connect over port 14800… (I tried changing the port, didn't help either) Then it does a lot connections and in the end it closes the connection again…

I was trying for 4 hours yesterday evening and I AM VERY UNHAPPY! Especially because my frieds kept telling my over TeamSpeak that now it would work on their machines.

Oh, and I even tried to connect via hot spot on my mobile phone… didn't work either…

I never had such depressing problems in over 30 years of gaming! 🙁

    #62794

Thanks for the fix. With the combination of PortForwarding and this windows firewall fix I got it working.

    #64249

Really having a hard time trying to make this work. 🙁

    #64370

i've tired all the above and its not working for me, i think i might be forwarding my ports wrong. i go to canyouseeme and put in 14800 but it times out. Do i use the router ip for the port forwarding or the ip at canyouseeme, theres also an usb ip in my router settings.

    #64375

    Hi,
I've got the same problems, Firewall open and no Anti Virus program etc. , but now I have solved my problem.

My Provider is Cable Germany and I am using the Router CVE-30360.

My Problem was that my router used IPv6 as Identity for my internet instad of IPv4. Most of the router only uses IPv4 for UPnP and not IPv6.

I've called my provider change my Identity to IPv4 and now it works

At first..sorry for my bad English. I have tried everything, but it didnt work at all. I never had such problems with multiplayer issues in any game before. I´d definitely like to play online battles more than any single player mode, so hope u can fix it as fast as possible.

    yours sincerely

    #64826

I just have to add to this …

Add a Direct Connect option to the UI in offline mode, while TRiumph fixes their problem. I have tried everything, enabled DMZ, setting port forwarding enabled uPnP, allowed a program to run through windows firewall, set application files to "run as Administrator" and even asked in a reply what does TRiumph need from my ISP to see if my ISP is blocking it. Every other game multiplayer works on my system, I have 50+ games installed, none of them are having multiplayer issues and the ones that do work fine with direct connect.

    "

I wish the AOW 3 devs good luck, but Direct Connect SHOULD have been the first feature to add after this release, as people are still having problems. Illegal copies of the game will be edited to take that restriction (login server) out so the point of putting it in the first place without direct connection is irrelevant. Instead direct connect should have been kept in offline mode for Triuphs customers that are having issues and permanent issues because of ISPs/Country IPv4/IPv6 protocols. Instead people that buy the game now have to deal with this situation otherwise the game having a simple direct connect option… REally developers take time to think about this .

Can you explain how you found this out with your router, what identity it uses (IPv4/iPv5)? I have both TCP IPv4IPv6 enabled on my properties for my network configuration, but can't find out with my netowrk uses with my ISP for IPv4/IPv6.

NM I think my router is using IPv4 because of this
    Automatic Configuration – DHCP
    IPv4 DHCP Server: Enabled

While the IPv6 does not have any of the DHCP or MAC address for my modem. So I am still using IPv4.

it started out with not working for me, so i tried manualy port forward it myself as ive had some experience with it in the past, however this time it wouldnt work, no matter what i cooked up, even turn on dmz in my modem and router and turn off my os firewall and still wouldnt work
even tried portforwards.com pfconfig that have worked in the past, still no joy
so in my desperation i tried a lil googleling a found another simular prog, found simple port forwarding, did exactly as before, enterd all the details and port 14800, the prog did a test and said it was working i tried doublechecking on http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ for confirmation, it said it was still closed so i kinda lost all my faith but fired up AoW3 nevertheless and tried mulitplayer internet again, and voila this time it worked. i dunno what that prog did that ive failed to do manualy or even pfconfig but honoestly i dont care, i jsut wanna play aow3 with my friends now 🙂
    hope this helps others

Same issue here – tried them all (firewall, port forwarding, UPnP), none worked. Is there anything I could do?

    #65716

i rang my isp they can not fix my port forwarding without paying them $120 AUS. I have tried more options with different ips and the 14802 i changed the setting on the aow start up. I've tried turning off firewall, enabling DMZ and have UPnP enabled.
