Appalu recipe (Andhra rava appalu)
Appalu are deep fried sweet snack that are prepared to offer as naivedhyam during festivals. Traditionally, Appalu are made of home-cured rice flour and jagghery. Here I have shared a rava appalu recipe which is fair-minded a variation of the time-honoured appalu. These are made with sooji/ suji / semolina and no other flours are used.
We construct these commonly during varalakshmi vratam and dasara navaratri to offer as naivedhyams. These are quite easy to make and taste really delicious.
Following this recipe, you can get encrusted rava appalu that rest the same for fewer hours. In the past I tried these with jaggary and failed to form them right. So I would not suggest replacement sugar with Jaggery.
I wish to deep Roger Eliot Fry or ankle-deep fry these in ghee to sustain the best perceptiveness. Simply not much of ghee is absorbed. You can use oil colour to fry instead of ghee.
How to make Andhra rava appalu
1. Bring water to a boil in a heavy bottom pot / pan, add 1 tsp. ghee and stir.
2. Append rava slowly in a stream to the stewing piss, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. In real time switch remove the kitchen stove.

Recipe menu
- 1 cup semolina / sooji / rava
- ¾ cup sugar
- 3 green cardamoms fine-grained
- 4 to 5 tbsps. Ghee or oil
- 1 cup water + 2 tbsps
